This is a book review of Van Nostrand Manual of Rendering With Pen and Ink by Robert H. Gill. This is an in-depth look at the topic that will delight mid-century modern enthusiasts. Want to learn how to draw a couple of different Bertoia wire chairs, a Saarinen tulip chair, a Barcelona Chair by Mies Van Der Rohe, credenzas, plus buildings, plans, people, plants and lots of other midcentury classics? Then this is the book for you!
Quoting from the back of the book: "Rendering is the reproduction or representation of an architect's design in the form of a drawing of the building as it will appear, complete with accessory details such as trees, traffic and people. It is also much used in preparing drawings for engineers, designers and manufacturers, and in advertising and industry generally. Mr. Gill has produced a concise, torough and copiously illustrated guide to techniques and methods, including sections on perspective, projection, shadow, reflections, and on how to draw cars, ships, aircraft, trees, human figures and so on. He also describes the very wide range of instruments and equipment that is available from different countries. Primarily intended for students (it is the first full textbook in this field), it will also be invaluable for practicing architects, industrial and interior designers, and advertising artists. As a designer and architectural renderer Robert Gill has had some 20 years of personal experience in the field of graphics and now heads his own industrial design office in Toorak, Australia. He also lectures in the subject at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology." (End quote from back of book.)
