Interior Design Book Reviews by Amy Solovay
This is a review of a retro hardcover book dated 1960. The book features room-by-room decorating tips for every taste and budget. There are 1001 ideas for your home with 280 pictures, many of which are in color- some are in black and white. The book is 160 pages long. The book's title is Better Homes & Gardens Decorating Ideas. Please click on any of the photos below for a close-up view. Some of the highlights from the book: Here is a picture of the front cover:

I just love this black and white photo from the family room section of the book. Notice the Tulip Table & Chairs by Eero Saarinen.

The chairs in these pictures look a lot like chairs designed by Charles Eames, made by Herman Miller Manufacturing Company. In the black and white photo, the wall art is inspired by Mondrian.

Here are a bunch more pictures taken from the book. Lots of great stuff- some of the concepts are totally space age, and some are more timeless classics. The rooms are very "finished" and the details are all attended to- the photos show ideas for rugs rugs and more rugs (shag, rag, rya, geometric...); lots of great wallpapers & textures; light fixtures; finishing touches like art and knicknacks; groovy fireplaces; wild colors; you name it! These photos & illustrations will give you an idea of the types of color schemes and room designs featured in the book. As you can see, this is a treasure trove of retro ideas. If you are into modern design you will really enjoy this book! Please click on any of the photos below for a close-up view.
